Lake Nottely is a TVA operated lake
located near Blairsville in Union County, Georgia. The construction
of Nottely Dam began in 1941 and was completed in 1942. At full
pool, it is approximately 4,100 surface acres in size and is 1,779
feet above sea level. The water level varies approximately 17 feet
in a normal year under the TVA's new operating policies. Lake Nottely
has 106 miles of shoreline, approximately 60% of which is owned
by the U.S. Forest Service or the TVA. Although most of the private
property on Lake Nottely has been developed there are homes and
vacant lots available for purchase. The value of lake property has
risen considerably in the last few years, and continues to rise.

Lake Nottely offers a number of recreational activities
including swimming, boating, skiing, and fishing. Several public
boat ramps are available creating easy access for boaters. Lake
Nottely offers excellent fishing for huge striped bass, with fish
over 50 pounds being caught. The lake also offers good fishing for
largemouth, spotted and smallmouth bass, hybrids, white bass, crappie,
bream, walleye, and catfish.
In addition to a variety of recreational opportunities,
Lake Nottely serves a number of purposes including flood control
and power generation.
